Introducing B2 Fukunaga: A Matcha with Family at Its Heart
Every great tea has a story, and B2 Fukunaga begins in Kirishima, at the family tea factory Matsuda Seicha.
Founded in 1898, Matsuda Seicha has remained family operated for more than a century. Generations of the Matsuda family have grown and produced tea in Kagoshima’s rich volcanic soils, refining their craft while staying deeply connected to the land. That continuity matters to us. It means experience, care, and knowledge passed down over time rather than rushed production.
B2 Fukunaga is made from the Saemidori cultivar, known for its natural sweetness and soft umami. The tea plants are shaded for four weeks before harvest, a traditional and labour intensive step that increases chlorophyll and L-theanine. This gives the matcha its vibrant green colour, gentle sweetness, and low bitterness.
After harvest, the leaves are processed into tencha and finely milled to create a smooth, consistent powder suited to modern specialty preparation. Matsuda Seicha also operates under Japanese Agricultural Standards organic management certification, reflecting long term stewardship and ongoing inspection.
In the cup, expect creamy umami, sweet greens, a touch of nuttiness, and a clean finish. It performs beautifully in milk while still holding its own as a straight matcha.
For us, B2 Fukunaga represents something simple and meaningful. A family’s dedication. A region’s identity. And a matcha we feel proud to share with you.
